It took about 28 hours to remove 3 layers of wallpaper. Beneath them was a covering that seemed closer to paint than wallpaper. It wouldn't come off without damaging the sheetrock, so I left it alone.

May 22 - still patching walls
May 22 - I gave up trying to fix this badly warped wall with joint compound, and tore out the worst section. The wall was warped since day 1. I guess the previous owner figured it was not a big deal.
The first attempt at skim coating caused the wallpaper to bubble and lift the top sheet of paper off the drywall. The joint compound might have been too watered down.
I've already removed about 1/2 of the sheetrock for one reason or another. I should probably just remove all of it.
This is a section of baseboard from the parlor. I guess the carpenter had trouble locating the stud. May 2016
This is a 2nd attempt at skim coating. This time the joint compound wasn't deluted and was applied with a wide putty knife instead of a paint roller.
I guess the carpenter had trouble findind the stud. May 2016
My plan to minimize the work took another hit today. I had to tear out more sheetrock due to extensive imperfections. This wall gets a lot of light at a sharp angle so even the sligthest imperfections would stick out. It was warped and, as you can see in the insert, it had a lot of seams that neeed to be patched. I hope to prime the remaining sheet rock in the next few days. May 29, 2016
These were behind the sheetrock on the wall that ran along the staircase. How long they've been there, and how they got there, is a mystery.
The item on the left is a ribbon of caps that make a loud bang when fired in a toy cap gun. I hit a few with a hammer and they were still good.
